IT’S RENAISSANCE TIME!
The warm weather has finally arrived, and now it’s time for you to arrive at JAV!
Join us to wind down after a long day or week with a clean, crisp glass of our White St. Croix or another of our many fine wines. This is the perfect month to relax on our porch or take a stroll through the vineyard. Our gift shop has a number of wines and other goods that would be a big hit at that upcoming picnic or family get-together. So, whether you come for some quiet time to yourself, a nice day with a significant other or a fun family outing, we don’t think you’ll have to try too hard to find a reason to come visit us!
Cheers,
Jim and Barb Ballard
WHAT’S HAPPENING
Enjoy a day of food, wine and Medieval entertainment at JAV on May 17th from 12:00pm – 8:00pm. JAV and the Lincoln-based Society for Creative Anachronism are teaming up to host the 11th Annual Renaissance Festival. The S.C.A. will be demonstrating combat of the Middle Ages on the tournament lawn in full armor throughout the day. They will also feature artisans practicing and displaying their different crafts and hobbies. Additionally, wandering minstrels, dancers and singers will be performing as well. Local talent such as Chris Sayre, The Throwing Picassos and Folk Harpist Jennifer Buehler will also be providing entertainment. And, of course, we haven’t forgotten the kids. This year’s festival will again feature a large children’s area with games, crafts, costumes and more.
Entry to the festival is only $1, and all proceeds will go to Heartland Big Brothers / Big Sisters. Food, wine and other beverages will be provided for an additional charge. It’s a festival fit for king, so we hope to see you there!
WINEMAKER’S NOTES—2007 2 BROTHERS
Residual Sugar: 6.1%
Alcohol: 9.0%
TA: .89%
pH: 3.30
This wine has a special place in the winemaker’s heart. Named after his two oldest sons, Benjamin and Beau, 2 Brothers is made from 100% Free-run LaCrosse. Free-run juice is the first juice that comes off the grapes before the actual pressing begins. Usually considered the sweetest and best juice, this vintage of 2 Brothers has wonderful pear overtones on the front of the mouth with a little hint of tartness on the finish. Easy to drink, this wine would be perfect before dinner with fresh fruits, or after dinner in the hot tub.
FOR THE WINE ENTHUSIAST
Malic Acid
Malic acid is one of the main contributors to the acidity of a wine. Malic acid has a sharp, green taste—not unlike the tangy freshness of a green apple. Whereas this may be desirable in some white wines, in others, and in most reds, it is not. In such cases, winemakers encourage its conversion to lactic acid with the malolactic fermentation.
